Last night I noted Federal Labor MP Julia Irwin's moonbat-induced rant against celebrating Israel's 60th birthday. Well today, a Federal Liberal MP Susan Ley decided to shill for Hamas, albeit less moonbatishly than Irwin (which isn't saying much). Her central argument is that no-one cares for the poor Palis and that they are suffering white man's guilt over the Holocaust:
Their's is not a popular cause but it's one I support in part out of the knowledge that the victors in World War II, including Australia, wrote a homeland cheque to cover the sins of the Holocaust and centuries of anti-semitism in Europe. But it was the Palestinians who had to cash it.
Unfortunately, former Iranian President Khatami made similar remarks in 2001. In countering this sort of argument, Alan Dershowitz offers two rebuttals in his bestseller, The Case For Israel.
The area partitioned for a Jewish state had a Jewish majority that had a right to self-determination vis-a-vis British...Second, the argument closes its eyes to the reality that some Arabs and Palestinian leaders bore significant responsibility for the Holocaust...It was as the direct result of Arab and Palestinian pressure that the gates of immigration to Palestine were closed to Jews [before and during the War].
It is well documented that during World War II, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem actively supported Hitler's pogram against the Jews. In fact he spent some of the war years in Berlin with Hitler writing in his diary that:
Our fundamental condition for cooperating with Germany was a free hand to eradicate every last Jew from Palestine and the Arab world.
For his complicity in Hitler's ethnic cleansing, the Grand Mufti was declared a war criminal at the Nuremberg trials. From Alan Dershowitz again :
Although it would be unfair to hold the Palestinian people responsible for the murder of European Jewry, its official leadership [the Grand Mufti] was certainly far from blameless in the Holocaust. It actively supported Hitler's final solution as well as Nazi victory over the Americans and their Allies...the Palestinian support for the Nazis should have disqualified from having much of a say in the postwar arrangements. Instead, in 1947, the Palestinians were offered nearly the same deal they had rejected in 1937 despite...[there being a] quarter million Jewish refugees...living in deplorable prison camps in the very country that had murdered their parents, children and siblings...Immigration into a Jewish homeland in partitioned Palestine was the only feasible solution to the refugee problem.
So much for white guilt and the Pali victimisation schtick. Not being content to pick up a terrorist talking point, she wants Israel to Israel to open direct talks with an brazen, child abusing, Geneva Convention violating jihadi terrorist group:
Ms Ley said a recent Tel Aviv university poll showed 64 per cent of Israelis believed the Government must hold direct talks with the Hamas Government in Gaza towards a ceasefire..."Military occupation blockades and hostility against civilians in the name of security will result in violence and breed terror," she said.
Shame. Fade back into irrelevance please.
