Courtesy of Julia Irwin, Federal Labor MP. I wonder what Australia's only sitting Jewish MP and Labor member, Michael Danby thinks about this sort of obnoxious nonsense:
PRO-PALESTINE Labor MP Julia Irwin has accused Israel of human rights violations and threatened to boycott a vote to celebrate 60 years of the Jewish state...Asked if Israel was engaging in human rights violations, Ms Irwin said she had no doubt...Ms Irwin has previously made speeches in Parliament characterising Israel's policies as "ethnic cleansing", and Gaza as a "concentration camp".
Also consider for a moment the weak-kneed defense of Israel by Labor Party parliamentary leader and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd:
Mr Rudd said the decision to mark the anniversary was not in conflict with Labor Party policy that supported peace negotiations based on two states for both for Jews and Palestinians.
Irwin is concerned about the plight of Palestinian children:
I have been to Palestine [sic]. I have seen with my own eyes. You walk through those streets. You walk in those refugee camps. You see those children. And yes, they are
Perhaps Julia Irwin might want to think of the child abuse, human rights violations and breaches of the Geneva convention depicted in this report by Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
In order to avoid civilian casualties, Israel sends warning messages before attacking terrorist targets advising civilians to leave. Israel prefers to attack empty buildings used to manufacture rockets, even taking into consideration that the terrorists too will be warned and their lives spared.
Hamas, on the other hand, calls on civilians to come and to protect with their bodies the precise locations they expect Israel to attack. Since they know that Israel will usually strike from the air, they send the children to the roofs to prevent the air force from targeting that building.
