Multiple Explosions on Mexican pipeline. Claims of responsibility by leftists discounted, leaving no credible claims. Now who likes to do terror without taking credit, hmmm ? Only one little 'ole Religion of Peace, that is.
Now, what were the effects of these explosions ?
- Raises oil price to record levels.
- Threatens US oil supply
- Increasing instability below poorly policed southern US border.
CUI BONO ?
Gulf Arabs, Venezuela, Russia, Iran? But wait. Russia, like the Gulf Arabs and even Venezuela does not actually want oil prices too high. That might just scare us enough to go for the Manhattan Project. They want to keep prices high, but not too high. They don't want us to kick the habit.
Not so Iran. Their oil output is declining as their industry sinks into disrepair due to sanctions and mismanagement. The hard line mullahs are running out of political capital in a rapidly impoverishing country, but need the cash flowing to subsidise their Iraqi and Levantine adventures. Iran wants the oil price as high as possible, and Ahmedinejad's crazy rhetoric may be just another device to pump up the price. Iran, unlike the other oil producers is not in for the long haul, wants oil prices to sky rocket. On this point they are at strategic odds with the Saudis. They don't care if the West weans themselves off oil, as long as they are a nuclear power and regional player at that point. They can then leverage their arsenal like North Korea, and dictate terms just like Russia.
So the Iranians are my main suspects. It is no secret that Iran and their proxies have been active in the Tri Border area, in Venezuela and other parts "South of the Border, Down Mexico Way".
There is also the matter of timing: Right after Israeli strike in Syria. Iran needed to show the US that it had the ability to attack key US interests while maintaining deniability. And making an oil buck in the process.
Also the unusually accurate missile strike by HAMAS on Israeli soldiers near Gaza, again right after the Syria air strike.
IMHO, This also has Iran all over it, and is part of their retalitory escalation mechanism. It is hardly a secret that Iran has been supplying HAMAS with increasingly sophisticated equipment and expertise.
So: they have the means, they have the motive, and they have the pretext.
Looks like payback to me, and an indication that the other side is prepared to raise things a notch if the US (or its Jewish proxy) does.
Interesting times.
Update: Thanks to Jim for correcting my nonexistent Latin. Next time I stick to Sumerian.
Update 2: The Manhattan Project may already be in progress.
Update 3: Something happened to the Lebanese telco system this week. The telco minister claims that it has something to do with the airstrike in Syria. He offers no explanation as to how or why, or even whodunnit, though there is mention of previous jamming during the war last summer (presumably by Israel). But this is Lebanon, land of a million conspiracy theories. Lets not forget that the airstrikes were about as far from Lebanon as one could get and still be in Syria.
Also, since the Lebanese telco minister and I are both speculating wildly, perhaps it pays to mention the new Hezbollah telco infrastructure and Russian signals intelligence assistance to the "Party of God" during Israel's handicap match against them last summer.
Update 4: Shadowy Marxist group [claims responsibility](http://hotair.com/archives/2007/09/12/marxican-insurgents-blow-gas-pipelines-in-veracruz/). Doubts raised about whether they would be able to conduct such an attack without help. Al Qaeda? Iran?
Update 5: Venezuela ultimately financing and arming a Mexican insurgency?
Your hibernation seems to have come to an end Moose.

Yeah.
Its Spring in the Antipodes :)
In addition to the above:
We can validate the above if we see more attacks on US strategic interests tied to big steps against Iranian interests.
Also if we see further evindence of suspiciously accurate missiles from Gaza, whether in retaliation or just because.

"Qui" is nominative. Here we want the dative, "to whom for a good?". CUI BONO is correct.
