The Islamisation of Pakistan

The radicalisation of Pakistan continues apace. In a recent post Moose noted that the growing strength of Islamist parties in nuclear-armed Pakistan was one of the most concerning aspects of the "War on Terror". One way to gauge how far along this path Pakistan lies, is to consider the plight of minorities.

Women have been oppressed for decades. Medieval practises of bride swaps, infant marriage, bombing girl's schools and the punishment of rape victims have tread the the rights of women asunder. Where is the Western feminist movement in speaking up for their Eastern sisters? Busy condemning President Bush for promoting abstinence over abortion in the Third World. Glad they have their moral priorities finely tuned.

Then there are the Hindus and Christians. They make up approximately 3% of Pakistan's population. Hindu Pakistani girls are being kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam. The Barnabas Fund reported in an email circular yesterday on the threat by Islamists in Pakistan's North Western Frontier Province to bomb churches and to kill all Christians if Christians in Charsadda and Mardan do not close their churches and convert to Islam. These threats were delivered on handwritten notes. Christians are responding to these threats by prayer and fasting. Fox News also has coverage, but does not report the threat to kill Christians and bomb churches. Interestingly enough, Barnabas Fund notes that Charsadda was were the Pakistani Interior Minister avoided being killed in a suicide attack in April.

The dhimmification of a population seems to precede Islamist surpremacy. Pakistan is not looking good.
